Here in Hawaii the system has been designed over the decades to shield officers’ background materials. In Honolulu county specifically, prosecutors, will almost always say that background information on police officers is not something they have, or, that information regarding the truthfulness of police officers has been purged. I am proud to have been fighting for a change in the law and policy here in Hawaii and to vindicate my clients’ rights. In the news today we have an update on the ever-growing public corruption scandal that has, so far, implicated, members of the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney, and the Honolulu Corporation Counsel, which is the agency that advices all Honolulu city agencies.
