Multiple current and former employees were called to testify about Honolulu Prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro. The summons suggest that the federal grand jury at the center of a years-long corruption probe is taking another look at Kaneshiro.
After refusing to turn over information to the FBI about one of his top deputies, Kaneshiro became a target of the investigation in 2016. The employee that Kaneshiro refused to provide information on was Katherine Kealoha, the wife of then-HPD police chief Louis Kealoha.
Eventually, Kaneshiro was ordered by authorities to turn over the information the FBI was seeking about his deputy prosecutor, Katherine Kealoha. Amongst the information that Kaneshiro turned over were details about a speeding ticket given to Mrs. Kealoha that was dismissed by a judge in 2014.
Both Kealoha and her husband were the targets of a corruption case that ended with a massive indictment of not just the couple, but high ranking HPD police officers as well. All of those indicted are awaiting trial for conspiracy to obstruct justice.
The fact that deputy prosecutors and other employees in Kaneshiro's office are testifying is not a good sign. During the FBI raid of Kaneshiro’s office, agents seized the office server.
